Managers and Recession

The recession brings a lot of stress to the organization. The employees are stressed as they can lose their jobs, but the managers are under the pressure as well. The managers have the information and they have to make a lot of decisions, which are carefully watched by the teams.

The HRM Function should not focus just on the employees, who are in the uncertainty, but the HR Business Partners should focus on the management of the organization.

The decision about the headcount reduction is tough for the top management, but the top manager has no faces associated with the numbers. The top management decides about the numbers per unit, which have to be reached. The lower the manager is, the more and more faces are in the front of manager’s eyes.

The managers have to decide about their employees. The managers know their lives. The managers know the rules for the headcount reduction and they know, what their employees need. They know about their children, dreams and mortgages.

The HRM Business Partners have to support the managers in the decision about the headcount reduction in the recession. The HRM Function has to offer several options to managers as they can make a really good choice.
