The job design is not easy and only really experienced HR Professional is able to make a good job design with the manager, when the new challenges faces the organization. The job design is not about writing the formal job profile and job description, but it navigates the manager in dividing the roles and responsibilities among different people in the team.

The job design is about making the team really efficient, as the HR Professional has to navigate the manager in splitting the overall responsibilities and roles in the whole team. The HR Professional has to couch the manager in writing down all the needed responsibilities, inputs and outputs of the team.

The manager’s role in job design is crucial as just the manager can provide the most important information. Generally, the manager is the key user of the job design and it helps to make the team work smoother.

The job design helps to identify potential gaps in the workload of different team members and the potential bottlenecks in the processes. The manager cannot see just employees behind the job design; the manager has to see the team as the complex unit with tasks, inputs, outputs and the responsibilities, which has to be divided.

The managers tend to put the most creative parts of the tasks to one specific job profile and the most repetitive tasks to the different job profile. When the real employees come to work, the level of satisfaction is not balanced as one part of the team feels to be useless and without the focus of the manager.

The role of the HR Professional in the job design is to provide the guidance, helping to use the best practice from the organization and to provoke the discussions about the correct setting of the new team. The role of the HR Professional in the job design is not about telling the manager what is good and what is wrong, but the HR Professional has to provide the feedback and time to have good discussions about the role of the new team in the organization and the vision of the manager.

The good job design helps the manager to balance the whole team and to allow the team to grow in skills, competencies and to build the development funnel. The results of a good job design are satisfied team members, who see the potential to grow and well balanced tasks, roles and responsibilities in the organization.
