KPI is just a number not a tool to assess employees

The companies (mainly multinationals) are obsessed with the numbers. All the processes have to be measured and reported timely to see the differences, difficulties and potential issues. The numbers are important, but there is always a human being behind them.

The key performance indicators (KPIs) are excellent tool for the management of the organization, but they are the indicators, they are not tools for making decisions about the people.

The management likes the numbers as they show the trends and the shareholders like to see the cash coming to the organization. The management tends to believe in the power of numbers and tries to manage the employees as the numbers.

The employees need more than just the numbers. They need to feel the emotions coming from the management. The management has to provide the employees with emotional news about the business and business development. When the messages are just about the numbers, they feel untouched from the company and the performance starts to suffer.
